# Drivers Ed vs DMV Driving Test

The clearest difference is rating: Drivers Ed at 4.6 against DMV Driving Test's 4.0. Drivers Ed also leads on ratings volume (1.1K vs 4). DMV Driving Test's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (monthly vs every 20 months). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Drivers Ed sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and DMV Driving Test sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Drivers Ed holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Drivers Ed has 1.1K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 75% of Drivers Ed's written reviews are positive against 100% of DMV Driving Test's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Drivers Ed ships an update every 20 months, DMV Driving Test monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
