# Random Generator vs Name Picker

The clearest difference is ads: Name Picker at none against Random Generator's shown. Name Picker also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.3). Random Generator's advantage is iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.4). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Random Generator sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Name Picker sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Name Picker holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 60 and 120 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of Random Generator's written reviews are positive against 78% of Name Picker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Random Generator ships an update every 3 weeks, Name Picker every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
