# Vidometer vs OverlayGPS

The clearest difference is update cadence: OverlayGPS at fortnightly against Vidometer's every 3 months. OverlayGPS also leads on rating (4.0 vs 3.8). Vidometer's advantage is ratings volume (58 vs 5) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.6). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Vidometer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and OverlayGPS sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

OverlayGPS holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Vidometer has 58 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Vidometer's written reviews are positive against 60% of OverlayGPS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Vidometer ships an update every 3 months, OverlayGPS fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
