# Lighter vs Lightsaber

The clearest difference is monetization model: Lighter at free with in-app purchases against Lightsaber's subscription. Lighter also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 26.0). Lightsaber's advantage is review sentiment (76% vs 47%) and ratings volume (31K vs 1K). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Lighter sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Lightsaber sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Lighter against 4.5 for Lightsaber. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lightsaber has 31K ratings behind it against 1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 47% of Lighter's written reviews are positive against 76% of Lightsaber's.

Lighter ships an update every 4 months, Lightsaber every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
