# HelloTalk vs YeeTalk

The clearest difference is monetization model: HelloTalk at free with in-app purchases against YeeTalk's subscription. HelloTalk also leads on ratings volume (44K vs 2.2K) and chart position (#28 vs unranked). YeeTalk's advantage is review sentiment (72% vs 36%) and ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HelloTalk sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month and YeeTalk sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

HelloTalk holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HelloTalk has 44K ratings behind it against 2.2K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 36% of HelloTalk's written reviews are positive against 72% of YeeTalk's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

HelloTalk ships an update fortnightly, YeeTalk every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
