# Herbs Guide vs Spell Book

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Spell Book at none against Herbs Guide's 1. Spell Book also leads on rating (1.5 vs 1.2). Herbs Guide's advantage is ratings volume (344 vs 4) and iOS requirement (6.0 vs 12.0). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Herbs Guide sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Spell Book asks for nothing beyond the download.

Spell Book holds the better App Store score, 1.5 against 1.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Herbs Guide has 344 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 5% of Herbs Guide's written reviews are positive against 0% of Spell Book's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Herbs Guide ships an update every 9 months, Spell Book every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on September 20, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
