# Spill the Sand vs Virus Evolution

The clearest difference is rating: Virus Evolution at 4.6 against Spill the Sand's 3.5. Virus Evolution also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (867 vs 20). Spill the Sand's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 9) and ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Virus Evolution sells 9 one-off in-app purchases. Spill the Sand asks for nothing beyond the download.

Virus Evolution holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Virus Evolution has 867 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of Spill the Sand's written reviews are positive against 32% of Virus Evolution's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Spill the Sand ships an update every 7 months, Virus Evolution monthly. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
