# Duolingo vs BB

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Duolingo at 65% against BB's 14%. Duolingo also leads on rating (4.7 vs 3.3) and ratings volume (5.5M vs 10). BB's advantage is iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Duolingo sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and BB sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Duolingo holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Duolingo has 5.5M ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 65% of Duolingo's written reviews are positive against 14% of BB's.

Duolingo ships an update every 5 days, BB fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
