# Duolingo vs Yabla German

The clearest difference is rating: Duolingo at 4.7 against Yabla German's 4.0. Duolingo also leads on update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (5.5M vs 6). Yabla German's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (73% vs 65%). On price, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Duolingo sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Yabla German sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Duolingo holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Duolingo has 5.5M ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of Duolingo's written reviews are positive against 73% of Yabla German's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Duolingo ships an update every 5 days, Yabla German every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
