# Duolingo vs Alef Omega

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Alef Omega at none against Duolingo's 28. Alef Omega also leads on ads (none vs shown). Duolingo's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 5 days vs monthly). On price, review sentiment, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Duolingo sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Alef Omega asks for nothing beyond the download.

Duolingo holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Duolingo has 5.5M ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of Duolingo's written reviews are positive against 67% of Alef Omega's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Duolingo ships an update every 5 days, Alef Omega monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
