# eyeSnellen vs Smart Optometry

The clearest difference is rating: Smart Optometry at 4.4 against eyeSnellen's 3.0. Smart Optometry also leads on ratings volume (529 vs 4). eyeSnellen's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months) and review sentiment (54% vs 42%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. eyeSnellen sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Smart Optometry sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Smart Optometry holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smart Optometry has 529 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of eyeSnellen's written reviews are positive against 42% of Smart Optometry's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

eyeSnellen ships an update monthly, Smart Optometry every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
