# Topo GPS vs Open Maps

The clearest difference is update cadence: Open Maps at every 4 days against Topo GPS's every 3 weeks. Topo GPS's advantage is device support (5 vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Topo GPS sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Open Maps sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Topo GPS ships an update every 3 weeks, Open Maps every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
