# Volcano Updates vs ShakeNet

The clearest difference is rating: Volcano Updates at 4.1 against ShakeNet's 3.7. Volcano Updates also leads on iOS requirement (13.1 vs 15.0). ShakeNet's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Volcano Updates holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 9 and 14 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Volcano Updates's written reviews are positive against 57% of ShakeNet's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Volcano Updates ships an update every 3 months, ShakeNet fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
