# Google Maps vs Save Location GPS

Google Maps and Save Location GPS both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 77% of Save Location GPS's written reviews are positive against 43% of Google Maps's. Google Maps's advantage is ratings volume (7.4M vs 429) and chart position (#1 vs unranked). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Google Maps sells 21 in-app purchases, starting at $0.89 per month and Save Location GPS sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Google Maps against 4.7 for Save Location GPS. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Google Maps has 7.4M ratings behind it against 429, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 43% of Google Maps's written reviews are positive against 77% of Save Location GPS's.

Google Maps ships an update every 6 days, Save Location GPS weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
