# Buttercam vs FIMO

The clearest difference is rating: Buttercam at 4.7 against FIMO's 4.0. Buttercam also leads on ratings volume (1.3K vs 258). FIMO's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and review sentiment (59% vs 48%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Buttercam sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and FIMO sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $29.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Buttercam holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1.3K and 258 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of Buttercam's written reviews are positive against 59% of FIMO's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Buttercam ships an update every 3 weeks, FIMO every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
