# Buttercam vs Chic

The clearest difference is rating: Buttercam at 4.7 against Chic's 3.8. Buttercam also leads on ratings volume (1.3K vs 49). Chic's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Buttercam sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Chic sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Buttercam holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Buttercam has 1.3K ratings behind it against 49, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of Buttercam's written reviews are positive against 58% of Chic's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Buttercam ships an update every 3 weeks, Chic every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
