# Hungry Oni vs Mela

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Mela at none against Hungry Oni's 3. Mela also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 6 months). Hungry Oni's advantage is ratings volume (20 vs 2). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hungry Oni sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Mela asks for nothing beyond the download.

Hungry Oni holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hungry Oni has 20 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 95% of Hungry Oni's written reviews are positive against 100% of Mela's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Hungry Oni ships an update every 6 months, Mela every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
