# Modern Cat vs Whisker

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Whisker at none against Modern Cat's 17. Whisker also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 7 months). Modern Cat's advantage is iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). On price, rating, review sentiment and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Modern Cat sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per year. Whisker asks for nothing beyond the download.

Modern Cat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Whisker has 149K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Modern Cat's written reviews are positive against 52% of Whisker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Modern Cat ships an update every 7 months, Whisker every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
