# Spotted vs Backpackr

The clearest difference is rating: Backpackr at 5.0 against Spotted's 4.4. Backpackr also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Spotted's advantage is ratings volume (588 vs 5) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spotted sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per 7 days and Backpackr sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Backpackr holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spotted has 588 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Spotted ships an update every 3 weeks, Backpackr monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
