# Kickstarter vs Slate Forums

The clearest difference is ads: Slate Forums at none against Kickstarter's shown. Slate Forums also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Kickstarter's advantage is update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (59K vs 1). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Slate Forums holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Kickstarter has 59K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Kickstarter ships an update every 4 weeks, Slate Forums every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
