# Handy Photo vs Photon Camera

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Handy Photo at 73% against Photon Camera's 24%. Handy Photo also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 26.0). Photon Camera's advantage is price (Free vs $2.99) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). On ratings volume, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Photon Camera is free to download; Handy Photo costs $2.99 up front. Photon Camera sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Handy Photo asks for nothing beyond the download.

Photon Camera holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 94 and 71 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Handy Photo's written reviews are positive against 24% of Photon Camera's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Handy Photo ships an update every 3 months, Photon Camera every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
