# Monkey Math vs Smart Tales

The clearest difference is price: Smart Tales at Free against Monkey Math's $2.99. Smart Tales also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and rating (4.6 vs 4.2). Monkey Math's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and review sentiment (89% vs 55%). On ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Smart Tales is free to download; Monkey Math costs $2.99 up front. Smart Tales sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Monkey Math asks for nothing beyond the download.

Smart Tales holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smart Tales has 18K ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 89% of Monkey Math's written reviews are positive against 55% of Smart Tales's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Monkey Math ships an update every 5 months, Smart Tales every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
