# Cursive Writing vs Tracing Shapes

The clearest difference is rating: Tracing Shapes at 5.0 against Cursive Writing's 4.1. Tracing Shapes also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 69%). Cursive Writing's advantage is ratings volume (2.2K vs 5) and update cadence (every 11 months vs every 27 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cursive Writing sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Tracing Shapes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Tracing Shapes holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Cursive Writing has 2.2K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 69% of Cursive Writing's written reviews are positive against 100% of Tracing Shapes's.

Cursive Writing ships an update every 11 months, Tracing Shapes every 27 months. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
