# Cursive Writing vs Modern Handwriting Calligraphy

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Cursive Writing at 69% against Modern Handwriting Calligraphy's 31%. Cursive Writing also leads on ratings volume (2.2K vs 459). Modern Handwriting Calligraphy's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 11 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cursive Writing sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Modern Handwriting Calligraphy sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Modern Handwriting Calligraphy holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2.2K and 459 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 69% of Cursive Writing's written reviews are positive against 31% of Modern Handwriting Calligraphy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Cursive Writing ships an update every 11 months, Modern Handwriting Calligraphy every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
