# BlueChess vs Primus Chess Lite

The clearest difference is rating: BlueChess at 5.0 against Primus Chess Lite's 4.3. BlueChess also leads on update cadence (every 4 months vs every 9 months). Primus Chess Lite's advantage is review sentiment (79% vs 50%) and ratings volume (23 vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

BlueChess holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Primus Chess Lite has 23 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of BlueChess's written reviews are positive against 79% of Primus Chess Lite's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

BlueChess ships an update every 4 months, Primus Chess Lite every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on September 19, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
