# Scenic Map vs OSM sketch

The clearest difference is ads: Scenic Map at none against OSM sketch's shown. Scenic Map also leads on monetization model (free vs ad-supported). OSM sketch's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 67%). On price, rating, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Scenic Map holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 2 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Scenic Map's written reviews are positive against 100% of OSM sketch's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Scenic Map ships an update every 3 months, OSM sketch every 4 months. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
