# Chess Multiplayer vs Chess Deluxe

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Chess Deluxe at none against Chess Multiplayer's 1. Chess Deluxe also leads on rating (4.0 vs 3.7). Chess Multiplayer's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (61 vs 6). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Multiplayer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Chess Deluxe asks for nothing beyond the download.

Chess Deluxe holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Multiplayer has 61 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 37% of Chess Multiplayer's written reviews are positive against 32% of Chess Deluxe's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess Multiplayer ships an update monthly, Chess Deluxe every 7 months. Both last shipped on October 13, 2026.
