# UV vs UV Index

The clearest difference is rating: UV Index at 4.6 against UV's 3.7. UV Index also leads on update cadence (every 5 days vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 3). UV's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 24) and ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. UV Index sells 24 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. UV asks for nothing beyond the download.

UV Index holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: UV Index has 1.1K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 71% of UV's written reviews are positive against 76% of UV Index's.

UV ships an update every 4 months, UV Index every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on September 21, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
