# PDF Read vs File Manager

The clearest difference is rating: File Manager at 4.5 against PDF Read's 2.6. File Manager also leads on review sentiment (84% vs 63%) and ratings volume (98 vs 5). PDF Read's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 14.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PDF Read sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and File Manager sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

File Manager holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: File Manager has 98 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 63% of PDF Read's written reviews are positive against 84% of File Manager's.

PDF Read ships an update every 6 weeks, File Manager every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
