# Memrise vs Woodpecker

The clearest difference is ads: Woodpecker at none against Memrise's shown. Woodpecker also leads on review sentiment (82% vs 68%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Memrise's advantage is ratings volume (218K vs 1.1K) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 weeks). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Memrise sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Woodpecker sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Memrise against 4.8 for Woodpecker. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Memrise has 218K ratings behind it against 1.1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 68% of Memrise's written reviews are positive against 82% of Woodpecker's.

Memrise ships an update fortnightly, Woodpecker every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
