# Memrise vs italki

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Memrise at 217K against italki's 9.8K. Memrise also leads on chart position (#129 vs unranked). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Memrise sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and italki sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Memrise against 4.8 for italki. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Memrise has 217K ratings behind it against 9.8K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 68% and 68% positive.

Memrise ships an update fortnightly, italki weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
