# Memrise vs LingoDeer

The clearest difference is monetization model: Memrise at free with in-app purchases against LingoDeer's subscription. Memrise also leads on ratings volume (217K vs 28K). LingoDeer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (77% vs 68%). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Memrise sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and LingoDeer sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Memrise against 4.7 for LingoDeer. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Memrise has 217K ratings behind it against 28K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 68% of Memrise's written reviews are positive against 77% of LingoDeer's.

Memrise ships an update fortnightly, LingoDeer every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 17, 2026.
