# Memrise vs Language Learning

Memrise and Language Learning both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 68% of Memrise's written reviews are positive against 25% of Language Learning's. Memrise also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ratings volume (217K vs 16K). Language Learning's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs fortnightly). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Memrise sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Language Learning sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Memrise holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Memrise has 217K ratings behind it against 16K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 68% of Memrise's written reviews are positive against 25% of Language Learning's.

Memrise ships an update fortnightly, Language Learning weekly. Both last shipped on October 20, 2026.
