Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Cute Avatar Creator at none against ZEPETO's shown. Cute Avatar Creator also leads on review sentiment (78% vs 57%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.0). ZEPETO's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 17 months) and ratings volume (545K vs 331). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Cute Avatar Creator sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and ZEPETO sells 24 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
ZEPETO holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ZEPETO has 545K ratings behind it against 331, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of Cute Avatar Creator's written reviews are positive against 57% of ZEPETO's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Cute Avatar Creator ships an update every 17 months, ZEPETO fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
