# Hover vs Paper Portrait Connect

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Paper Portrait Connect at 100% against Hover's 32%. Paper Portrait Connect also leads on rating (5.0 vs 2.9). Hover's advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium) and ratings volume (101 vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hover sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Paper Portrait Connect sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Paper Portrait Connect holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 2.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hover has 101 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 32% of Hover's written reviews are positive against 100% of Paper Portrait Connect's.

Hover ships an update every 2 weeks, Paper Portrait Connect weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
