# Online Shield vs VPN Security

The clearest difference is monetization model: VPN Security at free with in-app purchases against Online Shield's subscription. Online Shield's advantage is ratings volume (8K vs 1.2K). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Online Shield sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days and VPN Security sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Online Shield against 4.4 for VPN Security. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Online Shield has 8K ratings behind it against 1.2K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 55% of Online Shield's written reviews are positive against 53% of VPN Security's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
