# Proton Pass vs AxCrypt Encryption

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Proton Pass at 8.6K against AxCrypt Encryption's 4. AxCrypt Encryption's advantage is update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 weeks) and device support (4 vs 2). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Pass sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $35.90 per year and AxCrypt Encryption sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Proton Pass against 4.8 for AxCrypt Encryption. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Pass has 8.6K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Proton Pass ships an update every 2 weeks, AxCrypt Encryption every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
