# Proton Pass vs Rool

Proton Pass and Rool both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Rool's written reviews are positive against 68% of Proton Pass's. Rool also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Proton Pass's advantage is ratings volume (8.8K vs 4). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Pass sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $35.90 per year and Rool sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Rool holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Pass has 8.8K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 68% of Proton Pass's written reviews are positive against 100% of Rool's.

Proton Pass ships an update fortnightly, Rool every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
