# MX vs Video Player

The clearest difference is rating: MX at 4.3 against Video Player's 1.0. MX also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ratings volume (6 vs 1). Video Player's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 weeks). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Video Player sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. MX asks for nothing beyond the download.

MX holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MX has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MX ships an update every 5 weeks, Video Player every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
