# Upcoming vs Countdown

The clearest difference is monetization model: Countdown at free with in-app purchases against Upcoming's subscription. Countdown also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). On price, rating, review sentiment and ratings volume there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Upcoming sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month and Countdown sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Upcoming against 4.7 for Countdown. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 40 and 78 respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 57% of Upcoming's written reviews are positive against 60% of Countdown's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 22, 2026 and September 27, 2026 respectively.
