# Upcoming vs Countdown Widget & Countdown

The clearest difference is monetization model: Countdown Widget & Countdown at free with in-app purchases against Upcoming's subscription. Countdown Widget & Countdown also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months). Upcoming's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.5). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Upcoming sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month and Countdown Widget & Countdown sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Upcoming holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Countdown Widget & Countdown has 290 ratings behind it against 40, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of Upcoming's written reviews are positive against 67% of Countdown Widget & Countdown's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Upcoming ships an update every 2 months, Countdown Widget & Countdown every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
