# OpenCat vs PinWords

The clearest difference is rating: OpenCat at 4.6 against PinWords's 3.8. OpenCat also leads on ratings volume (852 vs 10) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. OpenCat sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and PinWords sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

OpenCat holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: OpenCat has 852 ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 65% of OpenCat's written reviews are positive against 50% of PinWords's.

OpenCat ships an update weekly, PinWords every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
