# MapGenie vs Pal Guide

The clearest difference is update cadence: Pal Guide at every 2 days against MapGenie's every 2 months. Pal Guide also leads on review sentiment (44% vs 34%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). MapGenie's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (1.5K vs 180). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Pal Guide sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 1.5K ratings behind it against 180, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 34% of MapGenie's written reviews are positive against 44% of Pal Guide's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MapGenie ships an update every 2 months, Pal Guide every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
