# BrightGo vs Defensive Instructor

The clearest difference is rating: Defensive Instructor at 5.0 against BrightGo's 3.9. Defensive Instructor also leads on monetization model (free vs subscription) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). BrightGo's advantage is ratings volume (7 vs 1) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Defensive Instructor holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BrightGo has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

BrightGo ships an update every 2 weeks, Defensive Instructor every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
