# MapLayers vs Topo Maps 2

The clearest difference is rating: MapLayers at 5.0 against Topo Maps 2's 4.2. MapLayers also leads on iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.2). Topo Maps 2's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (39 vs 1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapLayers sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $24.99 per year and Topo Maps 2 sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $4.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapLayers holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Topo Maps 2 has 39 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

MapLayers ships an update every 3 weeks, Topo Maps 2 every 5 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
