# ChatterBuddy vs Chatback

The clearest difference is monetization model: Chatback at free with in-app purchases against ChatterBuddy's subscription. Chatback also leads on ratings volume (2.9K vs 7). ChatterBuddy's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (100% vs 69%). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ChatterBuddy sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Chatback sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chatback holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chatback has 2.9K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of ChatterBuddy's written reviews are positive against 69% of Chatback's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ChatterBuddy ships an update every 5 days, Chatback every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
