# Speed Reader vs ReadMaxx

The clearest difference is rating: ReadMaxx at 4.8 against Speed Reader's 3.8. ReadMaxx also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months). Speed Reader's advantage is review sentiment (75% vs 67%) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.2). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speed Reader sells 7 one-off in-app purchases and ReadMaxx sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReadMaxx holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 6 and 12 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 75% of Speed Reader's written reviews are positive against 67% of ReadMaxx's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Speed Reader ships an update every 2 months, ReadMaxx every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
