# SMART REC vs TopInfrared

The clearest difference is rating: TopInfrared at 3.5 against SMART REC's 3.0. TopInfrared also leads on ratings volume (48 vs 4). SMART REC's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TopInfrared sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. SMART REC asks for nothing beyond the download.

TopInfrared holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TopInfrared has 48 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of SMART REC's written reviews are positive against 40% of TopInfrared's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SMART REC ships an update weekly, TopInfrared every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
