# FirstVPN vs Lockwell

The clearest difference is rating: FirstVPN at 5.0 against Lockwell's 4.2. Lockwell's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and update cadence (weekly vs every 4 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FirstVPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month. Lockwell asks for nothing beyond the download.

FirstVPN holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lockwell has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

FirstVPN ships an update every 4 months, Lockwell weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
