# Barrier vs AppBlockTimer

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Barrier at 80% against AppBlockTimer's 33%. Barrier also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (308 vs 1). AppBlockTimer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

AppBlockTimer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Barrier has 308 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Barrier's written reviews are positive against 33% of AppBlockTimer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Barrier ships an update fortnightly, AppBlockTimer every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and September 25, 2026 respectively.
